The Old-Fashion Charm of Buttons Candy Store Triggers Childhood Memories

The moment I stepped inside Buttons Candy Bar in San Francisco’s Noe Valley, a wave of nostalgia swept over me. I felt lost in time — it was as though I was transported back to my early childhood years, where summers were spent visiting my Grandparents in Door County, Wisconsin. Every year I would anxiously look forward to our annual trip to The Yum Yum Tree, a quaint old-fashioned candy store in the neighboring town of Baileys Harbor. This is exactly the kind of nostalgia owners Alison Porter and Dona Taylor aim to create inside Buttons Candy Bar. The ambience is quirky, colorful and whimsical with a contemporary vintage feel. Both long time residents of Noe Valley, Taylor is a small business maverick, owner of Gallery of Jewels and When Modern Was Home Goods Store on 24th Street, and Porter had a decade’s long career as an interior designer. Standing inside Buttons Candy Store you immediately feel the importance placed on creating visually comforting environments, which speaks directly to Alison’s talent as an interior designer. “So much of life has to do with who we love and how we are connected…and it turns out confections connect us.” In todays technology dominated world, Buttons Candy Bar is an extra special gem. It was born from the idea of sharing experiences, “creating a reflective experience in an era that is disconnected by technology and remembering the nostalgia of our childhoods,” Alison says. “Buttons Candy Bar is Happiness coming in and going out! It is the place you go to smile and feel the blissfully simple joy of a piece of Double Bubble, a Mary Jane or a Bit o Honey.”

Buttons Candy Bar is located in Noe Valley at 4027 24th St (between Noe St & Castro St)
San Francisco, CA 94114.
